Building on the success of the previous Financial Education Summits in Hong Kong and Malaysia, this event is expected to be the largest international gathering of financial education practitioners and advocates to be held in Asia Pacific.

The focus of this year's Summit is "Financial Health for the Next Generation." The lack of formal and informal financial education for children, teenagers, and young adults has far-reaching socio-economic implications. Over the last 40 years, the youth population has doubled in almost every country in the region. At the same time, most children are not learning basic money management skills such as saving and budgeting at an early age. Unprecedented purchasing power and consumerism is leading to over-spending among adolescents. School-leavers and young income-earners have to navigate an increasingly sophisticated financial market-place. These trends are having an impact on both developing and developed countries in terms of employment, pension systems, social services and public sector budgets. The imperative to provide instruction in schools and for public/private partnerships to supplement formal education is greater than ever before. Financial knowledge has become a basic life skill.
